We’re starting …

We’re starting a series of posts that we hope will help you learn new languages. First of all, you are on the right track because you decided to start learning a different language. Regardless of everything, it’s important to not give up and be motivated during the whole learning process. Try to use the same approach you had while learning your native language as a child, so be patient and curious about new information.

1. Set your language goals.

At the beginning, it is important to answer the question why you want to learn this language. The learning process requires a lot of regularity work, even if it is only 10 minutes a day. Set your goals in learning and plan your day. Determine how much time you can devote to learning during the day, week and month, and focus first on the things that you need most to start communicating in that language, even if you only use simple words.

2. Switch your brain to thinking in another language and surround yourself with content in that language.

It’s important to surround yourself with content in a new language throughout the entire learning process. It is known at the beginning that it will be very difficult, but over time it will be easier to change to a completely new language.

Below you have some ideas how you can do this.

  • Try to read your favorite book or book that you know in a new language and listen to it like an audiobook.

  • Change the language on Facebook or on the mobile phone to the language you are learning.

  • Watch your favorite series or series that you know with audio or subtitles in the language you are learning.

  • Listen to a podcast in a new language at least few minutes a day.

  • Translate the morning’s headlines or whole articles to the language you are learning.

3. Challenge yourself and do not be afraid to start speaking in a new language

Don’t be afraid to practice your languages skills and try to constantly set yourself new challenges, for example, order a coffee in a new language, order a meal in a restaurant or speak in a shop in a new language. Find people with whom you can practice speaking. Therefore, we invite you to join our Free conversation exchange community, we meet every Thursday at 20 in the Pub Jan. It is a great opportunity to meet new people, learn a little about different cultures and practice different languages.
